What is MID EUROPE all about?
|
|
|
The main focus of MID EUROPE is music for the
concert hall and high quality wind music. The stylistic variety
of the performed programs is fascinating and the audience is enthusiastic
about it.
Old and new, well-known and unknown, passed
on and visionary, regional and international music is being offered.
This area of tension triggers off intensive and stimulating discussions,
which ensure further development and the continuous increase of
quality. Both the regional individualities as well as the international
developments are taken into consideration. To develop a good musical
taste influences on the musical development for the active participants
as well as the audience are a fact. With all this together MID
EUROPE is the window to the musical world.
Orchestras, lecturers, musicians, exhibitors
but especially a demanding and an interested audience not only
from Austria and Europe but from all over the world visit MID
EUROPE. Numerous workshops on various specific topics and a large
music trade fair round off MID EUROPE. The encounter with internationally
recognized artists turn the visit into an experience.
It is enthusiastic and fascinating wind music
within an impressive landscape in the heart of Europe.

How it all began - the history of Mid Europe
|
|
 |
|
|
1997
At that time Prof. Wolgang Suppan was president of WASBE
(World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles). This organization
organizes a big international festival every other year. In 1997
it took place in Schladming. The great success of this event was
reason enough to bring something similar into being and soon MID
EUROPE was born.
1998
MID EUROPE – Prof. Suppan was the first artistic and
scientific director of Mid Europe. He stuck to his principles
concerning symphonic wind music and was able to develop a unique
event which isn’t found anywhere else in Europe.
2000
MID EUROPE – After the third Mid Europe Prof. Suppan
resigns as artistic and scientific director. Upon Suppan’s recommendation
Prof. Johann Mösenbichler (Bruckner Conservatory, Linz) was
appointed to follow him as president of Mid Europe.
2001
MID EUROPE – Prof. Johann Mösenbichler organised
his first Mid Europe and was already able to include numerous
ideas. He has also developed organizational structures and processes
further. With 15 000 concert-goes Mid Europe was extremely successful.
